Good summary!

Baxandall on the regulated supply on the 303 "The use of a regulated supply (for the 303) was my contribution, and had nothing whatever to do with any notion that it might be "sonically superior". It was done purely because in 1967 we were all scared of busting power transistors!"

From a long letter to Douglas Self.

Bit the bullet in the end and have now upgraded with Dada kit and just running it in now and will then check the voltages again. I had to wait until they re-stocked anyway. That is all three of my 303's done now but looking back the first one i did was eleven years ago.

Hmm. Have been using a 303 for donkey's years in the course of which I had to replace a noisy front end transistor and leaky electrolytic. I have no intention of modifying it as it still manages perfect reproduction through a pair of Tannoy 15" speakers.
