Re: German control unit from WW2?
Anforder = requestor.
Herst. is abbreviated Hersteller = manufacturer. What's the German on the controls, please? |

Re: German control unit from WW2?
Interesting, so its a Fernbediengerät which = remote control apparatus.
There appears to be an on/off switch for a headset. |

Re: German control unit from WW2?
Squelch control? If indeed it IS exclusive to the Ju87-(which isn't clear) it's likely to be scarce.

Hello Hugh
Thank you, Do you know what equipment this was attached too, or the contact details of a Museum in Germany? 73s Andy |

Re: German control unit from WW2?
So far as I can make out the radio kit in the JU87 was the FUG16Z (R/T) and the FUG25A (IFF)

Re: German control unit from WW2?
From a couple of poor res. images of Ju87 cockpits i can make out a unit that looks quite similar to the one Andy has. The one example of this a/c that we have in the UK is probably still at Hendon, but a) it was modified to a newer spec. whilst in service and b) the brief flight trials undertaken by the British wouldn't necessarily have required a functioning radio. (So a visit may be disappointing even if you could get near it.)

Having done a bit of googling I'd agree with Lawrence that the most likely candidate is FuG16, though I can't find any pictures of that radio which your control box (or anything like it). Early models of the JU87 seem to have been fitted with a different radio, which presumably explains why some JU87 cockpit pictures show the control box and some don't. As to potential museum contacts it may be worth trying the Bundeswehr Museum of Military History (scroll well down the page to find an email address) and/or the Bundeswehr's Luftwaffe Museum at Gatow. Finally, if you can find contact details for the person behind this video they may be able to help. Good luck! Hugh |

Re: German control unit from WW2?
I think that R/T might have been behind the pilot in the area that the operator/rear gunner was, apparently some JU87's were fitted with that R/T and some were not, possibly the earlier ones.
