Default Greetings from Essex - Melba radio ID?

Hi there, I have just joined so thought I'd introduce myself. My primary interest was more recent electronics and amps. However older radios are starting to catch my attention.

I like to fix if I can but my electronics knowledge is quite basic.

I found this resource trying to identify something given to me. It's marked up as British made and says 'melba' but other than that can't see any manufacturer. Guy I got it from said it was 1930's but the leatherette reminds me of Dansettes which makes me think it's later.

Sorry to ask a question on my first post but if anyone can point me in the right direction as to what it is I would be grateful.

It appears to be using 2V accumulators for the valve filaments rather than dry batteries. That coupled with the valve types does point to the mid 1930s.

It appears to be in very good cosmetic condition.

This one has some similarities:

There's a Melba mentioned in here (Mag page 9):

Lawrence.

Don't connect power without:
a) Understanding it better.
b) Replacing any capacitors between anodes and grids.
Yes, it's late 1930s.

The Dansette 1960s covering isn't quite the same stuff and was obsolete then!

Thank you so much for your helpful responses I will not be messing with it or trying to power it.
