Indeed there was/is, I have a specimen here in the workshop that functions, it is filthy and has received no attention from me as yet. See attached image.
I have a very nice example of your Crown set, although mine is branded Universum.
Although it has both UHF & VHF tuners, it is 625 line only.

There were a fair number of imported portables that had a VHF tuner installed but were not dual standard 405/625 these were made for markets that used 625 line UHF/VHF. Teleton imported lots early on in the 1970's.
Later models had the VHF tuner blanked off and sometimes had a small pre amp wired in it's place to make up for the gain loss as the VHF tuner was often used as a preamp on earlier sets.

I once came across some Pye colour sets that were UHF/ VHF 625 / 525 I think based on the CT200 these had been used on ships. I cannot remember how the timebase was switched but I remember the sets had extra sub panels which were rather untidily wired in.
Rich.

Many council owned blocks of flats around here distributed BBC2, and later BBC1 and ITV 625 line services on "spare" VHF channels because the existing distribution systems were too lossy at UHF. Dual standard TV sets were used, modified so the VHF tuner was active regardless of the position of the system switch.
Later, when only single standard receivers were available, a UHF to VHF converter box was used eg the Labgear Televerta.

Is this set bought in Germany? Universum was a Quelle brand.

I've a similar Universum too, VHF/UHF but I don't recall it including radio: also a couple of 3" Standard sets, one UHF only and the other VHF/UHF -

Those don't seem to have emerged from their boxes yet since we arrived in Norfolk, but one that has is this 5" VHF Sony.

Shango 066 on YouTube got one of those 5" Sony's recently and will be doing a video on it soon.
The set is in an Episode of "Danger Man" where he installs a CCTV system to observe a bad guy.
