I was thinking that maybe there is an ultra-thin crack in the wire of a winding that creates bizarre effects. Using electronic meters in "funny" situations can give misleading results, just as you keep describing.

I reckon the high inductance has a long enough time constant that the meter range switches before it has settled. The inductance needs to be pretty high for this to happen.
The signal generator may well have gone as low as 10hz and that would need to remain constant amplitude so again indicating an expected high inductance. You have almost certainly got the correct value for it. |
