Default Sony ICF-35, qty 2 incoming.

Put in a couple of Ebay offers and won both, total cost £32. Bonus is that one comes with the mains PSU that also fits my ICF-SW7600GR.
Have a service manual, as each has some issues, but have not been able to source a User Guide.
Not a biggie, they're not complex machines, but you know it's a needed thing!

Any pointers much appreciated!

Here's the user manual for the Sony ICF-35 (English and French) - just open the attachment.

The mains adaptor is the same as many other portable audio products. I have a Sony ICF-7600GR radio and use it with a power supply from an Aiwa / Sony personal CD player. The Sony PSP (Playstation Portable) video game adaptor also works, as does a TomTom GPS charger. All of these are quite easy to find.

Many thanks, Hamid, did just locate a manual in germany off Ebay, but at £15 delivered, I backed off. The adaptor is included with one, so now all three radios have mains capability.
Once again, thanks for the download.

Aha, this is for the ICF-SW35, a very different and more modern unit.
ICF-35 looks like this:-

Hi DCBassman,
I bought one of these BITD (from Boots) - I still have it along with the operating instructions booklet.
I'll see if I can find it and scan it for you.

Regards,
Andy

OK, first one is here, it's a black one - the other is silver. The PSU is working, but the tip is fractionally too big for the 7600GR. Rats.
Seller described fault as crackly volume control, and sure enough, a squirt of Servisol soon had that un-crackled. Band switch was actually much worse; it had probably never been off FM. Twenty seconds' back and forth with that, and all was well. Even managed to pull in Shanwick SSB on SW! Undecoded, that is.

And the second set has arrived. Well-neglected, and definitely got-at.
Strip and clean battery leakage as best I can. Negative battery contact probably not going to survive. Re-assemble.
Sure enough, batteries won't bring it to life...
Try with the PSU - bingo! Alive on FM and Long Wave. Just noise on MW and SW, although occasional faint signals apparent.
FM tone and volume is better and louder than the black set, very nice sound. Easy to overload into distortion if not tuned well, though.

A closer comparison of the two sets shows that on the black set, the 'better' one if you will, the FM band shows imaging, eg Radio 4 92.5 reappears just below Radio 2 88.1, and at pretty much full power. So, I have a pretty one that works on all bands, almost, and sounds...OK, and a scruffy one that sounds utterlu fabulous on FM, but is largely otherwise unserviceable.
I think a plan for a merger is on the cards...
