Default Sanyo Transworld 18h - 815

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a Volume pot for this radio. The on off switch is broken. I opened it up and there's a piece of plastic that's broken that hits off of the switch.

I must say that this is a really nice Radio and performs brilliantly on all bands, however I noticed that while scanning through the SW bands it picks up some distorted FM signals, what would cause this ?

The pot is 50 k.

Have you a photo of the pot, I cannot help but a photo may help someone identify it.
Are those distorted FM signal from the Broadcast VHF FM band 2? If they are it could be harmonics of the local osc beating with the FM signal. Possibly a number reasons could cause it.

Unfortunately, I only took these photos with half of it missing......

It's splined at the end.

I should add "missing" is after I took it apart.

As far as I can tell the FM signal appears to be broadcast FM.

Sometimes the switch in the rear of the pot can be repaired. You may be able to source/google a 50K pot (check whether it's logarithmic or linear) but it may be more difficult to source one with an on/off switch. Save it in case you can't - you could fit a neat in-line switch in the mains lead.

If that is a standard pot. with a splined shaft, Cricklewood Electronics and several eBay sellers list similar types, usually 16mm diameter types in a wide range of log. and linear values, but whether any stock ones with a switch I'm not certain.

Thanks for the replies lads.

I don't know how to find out whether it's log or linear ?

If you have a meter, test it with the one of the ohms range, a linear pot will read 25k from either end with the pot in the middle of its travel, a log pot will not.
It's probably a log type with it being the volume control.
