Default Beocord 5500 B & O cass deck schematic/advice please

Beocord 5500 B & O cass deck schematic/advise please

UNITS TYPE NO - 4932

hi all,

this unit is cursed with an int issue

on occasion,when play,fast forward,or rewind selected,deck starts,then stops a few secs later,with pinch roller/head assembly remaining engaged

from this point,if any of the functions selected again, the same happens.only difference the second time is that the units tray motor also spins

anyone with experience on these units ?

i observed the fault could be instigated at a faster rate,on occasion,by selecting auto reverse

even though the reels were turning before unit faulted,on removal and inspection of idler,i noticed a distinct and clear gap between idler gear & the gear on motor spindle

also noticed idler plate had become warped over time, hence the 2 gears moving away from each other

through the process of heating, the bending,i managed straighten plate, back to it's original shape, then froze it in place

also cleaned/lubricated idler & reels

not sure this has cured issue, but will report back after testing

cleaned grease from back of both capstan flywheels, that contact with back plate, then re - greased.

this seemed to improve matters slightly, but would still stop

next,i replaced capstan belt, with one of less tension.now plays without stopping.

i suspect there's weakness, within the capstan motor, therefore will quite possibly replace that also

That type of motor are known for being faulty in other B&O equipment. Good motors but the bearings fail after 30+ years.

hi John, yes suspect you are spot on,cheers

just to prove the point,i replaced capstan motor, and also fitted back the original belt, which has more tension.seems to be playing ok at the moment.

will update once fully tested
