Default Can you put a name to this radio?

It has a metal back but the label has long since gone. Anyone any ideas?

That is a ferranti Model546, sold during 1946 a lovely little 4 valve superhet. A very nice looking compact unit.

Thanks Mike, paintwork is a little worn but the chassis is in tidy and untouched condition.

I've got one - they spray up nicely with acrylic car paint of a suitable colour - take your pick at Halfords! Don't strip the paint off, just rub it down with say 400 - 1000 grit wet and dry. Acrylic paint builds nicely with two or three coats, but you could give it a coat of white acrylic primer first.

The lettering is coming off the dial on mine, but I've left it alone.

If I recall correctly, the metal backplate doubles as an 'aerial'. It makes a change from the all too common brittle, scroched brown cardboard, or worse still, no back at all!

"It's got no back on" has become a generic term in our household for anything which is a bit naff or below par. It could be a chipped vase, blunt garden shears or dented wing on a car.

Mad or what?

Don't put me in a home...
