Colour TV lecture records.
At the last Harpenden, doesn't that seem a long time ago!!, I got two long play records produced by Rank Bush Murphy in 1967.
Record #1 describes the colour principles and the shadow-mask system. Record #2 describes in detail how to adjust the many convergence controls on an early RBM 625/405 colour set. The final section deals with how to install at colour TV in someone's home and what you should and should not say to them! These Lectures were meant to be supported by slides and the recording tells when to change slides.. " slide thirteen" and so on. A couple of questions; Does anyone have the matching slides? Are these disks rare?? Regards Brian |

Re: Colur TV lecture records
I've not seen these before, I would like to see a picture of the record labels and covers if you have them.
I suppose someone must own the copyright, but they hardly have any entertainment value, except to us. Would you consider uploading an MP3 of this historical artifact somewhere? Who knows, someone may have the set of slides with no records.

Re: Colour TV lecture records.
No I dont remember the records either, we sold and serviced the dual standard RBM from 1967, one of the first colour sets we sold.
A photo and MP3 as Graham suggests may jog my faded memory.

Re: Colour TV lecture records.
Hello Brian,
I have both the slide sets and the records. There have been quite a number of the records on ebay over the last few years, but not the slides. My set were all scanned and the records recorded a long while ago and I probably have a copy on disc. The other person that may have the data is Jonathan Evans as he did all of the scanning and recording. There are also a hole host of other slides produced by Murphy for early colour TV lectures and demonstrations which I have scanned and are earlier than the RBM training set. Some are American in origin I think and others from the 1950's that were used in the test scanners in Murphy for colour television development. Mike...

Re: Colour TV lecture records.
Yes, I put together videos with the records and their associated slides, one is on the BVWS Youtube site
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68PZmMsf07k Had wondered at the time about a BVWS DVD of them but IIRC there are four parts and at three hours total was really only for die-hard colour telly adicts. Maybe it'd be worth considering uploading the rest, must admit I'd forgotten about them. The audio transfer was done by a mate of Mikey405 on some super duper equipment so is pretty good. TTFN, Jon |

Re: Colour TV lecture records.
The correct procedure in the early days of Colour, if I remember correct was, hump the set into position, switch in on, wait 20 mins to let it warm up, and then degauss the CRT and set up the Purity, once done, Gray scale and focus before setting the convergence both for both 405 and 625.
No mean task getting it right on both systems. Then explain the controls to the customer, and worn them about putting Hi Fi Speakers too close. But by the early 70`s it was dump it and run before the boosted CRT went flat..!! Ken G6HZG

Re: Colour TV lecture records.
We were Sony and other top dealers. The 1330 Sony wasn't out then but we sold BRC products, the 2000's whilst good sets didn't shy away from a convergence on delivery, nor the G6. One set we never keen on was the Pye 691, we were more scared of those than the G6 with its PD500/G501, things became a lot easier when the Japs (sorry!) brought their small screen sets over.
I'm on the hunt now for these mysterious disks. |

Re: Colour TV lecture records.
Hi Tony,
What did you find scary in the 691? I thought they were bread and butter jobs.
