Default EMI TR-90 - Inherited from father.

Hi, my father (know as baldeagle1951 on this forum) sadly passed away in 2020. I have inherited his EMI TR-90 - and while I share his passion for vintage audio equipment, I don't have the time or space to indulge in this particular machine.

I found a post of his on here regarding the TR-90 - amongst other things on various forums - by searching his username on Google. God bless the internet.

Can anyone advise on where the best place would be advertise this for sale? Or would anyone on here be interested? I don't really know enough about the machine to create an accurate listing - so I'm not sure ebay is the right place for it...

I will take some photos in due course - in the meantime, his original post (https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...74#post16574):

Hi, I've got one of these as well. Mine doesn't have a feed spool tension arm either. It came from the BBC in Manchester (Dickinson Road) and all three units are 'Machine Number 6'. I also have the original instruction manual (1 cm thick!!) with schematics and circuit diagrams if you need any technical info. It still works and has all the cover plates, but one of the VU glasses is missing and now the needle has gone as well - any spare VU's around??
Attached are drawings from the manual showing the feed spool tension arm, but my TR90 definitely doesn't have one.
I was told my machine was a 1958 model, but I don't know how accurate this is. There are no dates in the manual.
Thank you for your time.

Sent you a message!

NB - I think it's quite a specialist machine. As you suspect, I'm not sure it's mainstream enough for Ebay. You might be better off finding a serious collector who specialises in EMI and the like. There are a few here.

You might be surprised at what will sell on eBay. A couple of years ago a pair of trolley mounted mono TR-90s sold with bids up to a very considerable sum, for collection only from a Scottish island only accessible by a limited ferry service. As I recall the vendor offered overnight accommodation to any buyer...

On the other hand I myself bought just a deck (for spares) a few years ago on eBay for peanuts as the sole bidder.

As with any relatively uncommon item, auction prices can be quite random on short term listings. You need plenty of time for the right people to stumble across anything which has such a limited market if you want to get a 'fair' price.

If you can find two keen collectors on the other hand...

Cheers

As others have said consider posting a listing for it on Ebay , these items do attract interest .
