Default Sanyo G 4001

Hi folks.
So far I’ve found your forum a very useful with regards removing the platter from this recent freebie that I picked up. I genuinely love it, and want to get the turntable working. My initial theory was it just needed a belt until I got inside and realised everything had basically melted! I’ve removed and cleaned all traces of rotting rubber etc… but now realise there must be something missing. I’m assuming there would be some kind of rubber wheel on the drive post…. Would this be correct? If so, are they fairly standard to pick up? I assume it affects the speed of the turntable if the wrong one is used.

Thanks for having me.
Shane

It looks like you have a belt drive turntable so your missing the rubber belt.

That's what all those gooey rubber bits are the remains of the belt

Cheers

Cheers Mike. The belt was in several pieces and has left it’s trace all over our house……very sticky messy! I was wondering if the belt goes directly on to the metal post from the motor? Or if some kind of wheel should also be in there. Without it, the speed selector looks like it won’t contact the belt.

Thank you.

Only the belt is missing its narrower than the selector.

The belt only touches the selector during speed changes the pulley is usually shaped to keep the belt central.

You will need to clean all that goo off before you fit the new belt

Cheers

Fantastic. Thank you. Figuring out the path of the belt will be my challenge when I get hold of a replacement.
Cheers.

Figured it out. Got confused with the way the old belt was laying! Thank you.

Put the belt round the inner drum of the turntable. Then, through the top of the turntable, get one finger between the belt and the turntable, and stretch the belt out nearly to the outer edge of the turntable. Keeping your finger in that position, carefully replace the turntable, then with the other hand, thread the belt through the forks of the speed selector, and then over the motor pulley. Job done!

Cheers Barry. I had been thrown by the position the old belt had come to rest in. Made sense when I realised it was just a normal setup and nothing fancy!!
Thank you very much. Really appreciated.
This is giving me the confidence to work on my Rotel and Blaupunkt too.

Just wanted to say thank you for the help the other day folks. Calculated the belt size and found a NOS stylus. After cleaning up the remaining gunk, they’ve been fitted today and she’s working like a dream. Cassette player only seems to work on one channel, but the only cassette I own is the one that came in it! 😂

Thank you all.

Clean all the switch contacts. 9 times out of 10 dirty contacts are responsible for these sorts of faults. Use proper Servisol switch cleaner or an equivalent - don't spray WD40 everywhere.

I second that on using Servisol Super 10... don't spray WD40 anywhere near electrical contacts

You might also need to clean the tape head, and check that the pinch roller hasn't also aged badly (they usually turn to pot not goo)
