Default Collaro Challenger

After many hours working on the above deck it is now working, however the arm needs very slight adjustment and I need to confirm how this is done, I’ve attached a picture which shows arrow pointing towards a screw, is this the pu arm set down adjustment ?
I have read Maurice Michael excellent write up on the Conquest, with additional comments my Edward. Thanks
John

Thank you Michael, just to clarify, do I only turn the screw slightly or do I have to move the plate? I have put a request in the wanted section for info and a switch.
When I tried to open your link it say it can’t find it ?

In my experience you only need to turn that screw VERY slightly. Mark the optimum position with a pencil. Best to test on a 10" disc.

Thank you Edward, I will certainly be very observant and take more pictures. When I first received this RP the Collaro deck was seized up, so I stripped the mechanism and eventually got it to function correctly apart fro two things: PU Arm was to high and touching other records, I adjusted the appropriate screw, see picture, and that’s now ok, and the second is the setting down at start of play, it just needs a very slight adjustment to bring it onto record.

Just before I make any further adjustments could I ask your views on the following.
During the strip down, clean etc I removed the PU Arm assembly, see pictures, could the reassemble position be out very slightly, are the two screws to adjust the course position of the PU Arm ? Thanks

If you are talking about the 2 small forward-facing screws, yes these can have a small affect on the drop position of the tone arm. I'm not quite sure why you felt the need to dissmantle this part?

I completely stripped the Mechanism to clean etc, perhaps I was a little too enthusiastic, to do this you had to undo the PU arm attachment. I’ve attached a picture showing the separated mechanism.

No they don’t Edward. Only the adjustment on the cam sets the set down position. The two screws were an adjustment for the set down position on the earlier RC54, RC456 and RC457

Thank you for the clarification. I’m interested to know what exactly does the screw on the cam do, does it cause the plate to move ? When I had the mechanism on the bench I should have taken more close up pictures to see how it worked. Thanks.

I think the screw has an eccentric cam as part of it, so it moves the plate slightly.
