Re: Help with power unit identification
It appears to be a vibrator pack of some sort, similar to those used in car radios of the time, with possibly a 12 volt input.

Re: Help with power unit identification
AM = Air Ministry, so aircraft related. Certainly an HT p/s for some small radio.

Re: Help with power unit identification
I wonder if, with a number like 8030 it could possibly be a power supply for teleprinters in the field? I had an Army unit with a vibrator in it for battery use in the field. It would have given 80-0-80 volts at up to 30mA(20mA nominal) for the printer magnet. Could it be that the two rectifiers are one for each polarity? Do some voltage measurements across the smoothing cap. On the other hand it could just be, as others have suggested, a vibrator pack for a small radio.

Thanks to you all for your thoughts; it's not really my "bag" so I won't fiddle with it, just auction for Alzheimer's charity... cancer got the old man but at least he kept his marbles & sense of humour to the end

It is certainly a late Air Ministry power unit but I don't have anything on this one. |
