Mystery set to identify...
I wonder if anyone recognises this dual standard b&w model spotted in a film made in 1969 and starring Benny Hill!
It has a bit of a Thorn/BRC look about the controls, but the two tone grey front is like no set I've seen from that stable. Any ideas? Steve |

Re: Mystery set to identify...
Possibly a Thorn Group set made in 1967 or 68 for a rental company.

Re: Mystery set to identify...
I reckon it's a BRC 950 and quite possibly a rental version as David says. There's a badge bottom left of the set- quite a long one!

Re: Mystery set to identify...
Hi Marc,
The set lacks the tell tale system switch knob at the bottom that would indicate a KB model. As far as I'm aware I don't think any KB duals had the system switch linked to the VHF tuner (like GEC) or solenoid operated. Cheers Brian |

Yes of course Brian, I completely forgot about the system switch or the complete lack of in this case.

Re: Mystery set to identify...
Difficult one this. The top knob looks like a volume control. It may have push buttons on the top right. It looks like a rental special. I would guess British Relay Wireless [BRW]

Re: Mystery set to identify...
It's a tough one isn't it?
The control layout isn't a million miles away from my Ultra Bermuda hence me leaning towards it being a BRC950 in some sort of guise, although the tuner knobs on the set in the film don't look quite right. Steve |

Re: Mystery set to identify...
Further on in the film (The Waiters....Youtube) there's a brief glimps of part of the rear cover, it's sort of got the Thorn look/texture about it, also the depth of the front cabinet trim can be seen in that shot, 25:54 in:
