Re: BVWS Winter Bulletin
Thankfully, my Bulletin arrived here, 10 miles from Lands End yesterday!
Now, the other problem. To start reading it now, or can I wait and save it to read when the rest of the family are watching the usual Christmas repeats on the box! Hmm.... SimonT.

Re: BVWS Winter Bulletin
Mine has arrived too! A quick look through points to a very happy Christmas Day read (and with previous 3 Bulletins, to vote for the Pat Leggatt Award).
Thanks to all contributors - and to Alex who pulls it all together! |

Re: BVWS Winter Bulletin
As said in the post above I got mine yesterday, I then paid my 2023 subs immediately, too quick I'm afraid as I used Paypal before reading Gregs comments in 'From the Chair', I'll use my card next year as it's cheaper for the BVWS.

Re: BVWS Winter Bulletin
There is a note on the payment page where you choose the payment method with the same request, but I have just changed it to red text to make it more noticeable.
Currently it's about half PayPal and half card. |

Re: BVWS Winter Bulletin
I'd do a BACS transfer if the option was available - it's how I deal with other societies I'm a member of.

Re: BVWS Winter Bulletin
The difficulty with bank transfers is that the payments doesn't accompany the membership forms or online renewals, so they need to be matched up and confirmed between the membership secretary and the treasurer (hoping that there are clear payment references etc).
If payment is received but there is no corresponding renewal form or online renewal, then there is nothing to confirm you agree to abide by the code of conduct etc for that membership period, or that your details haven't changed etc. So although it saves a small amount in fees it is actually more work and hassle for the society. |

As for "abiding by the code of conduct" - well, that's another discussion. |

Re: BVWS Winter Bulletin
The current options work fine for us currently, and provide everything needed to efficiently manage around 1200 renewals. Don't need any more complexity or options.
I'm sure bank transfer could be arranged in individual cases by contacting the membership secretary. |

Re: BVWS Winter Bulletin
The Post here (Camberley) has not been good, My Winter Bulletin has not arrived yet but a very large number of Christmas cards came this morning.
Please don't take this in any way as a complaint, more a post to provide information. Let's see what tomorrow brings..... |

Re: BVWS Winter Bulletin
I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive in Twickenham, I also got a load of Xmas cards this morning. I can't renew online until I get the mag as I don't have a note of my BVWS membership number.

Re: BVWS Winter Bulletin
It’s unfortunate but probably not surprising that some still haven’t arrived. Hopefully they won’t be too much longer.

Re: BVWS Winter Bulletin
I really enjoyed reading the article on the "low mileage, full provenance available" Philips G6 dual standard TV and it reminded me of when I encountered a few of these many years ago, plus a 22" single standard G6 (which was a frequent visitor to the workshop where I was employed for a couple of years in the 1971-73 period).
I thought it must have been based on a European CTV design, as I later worked on the Swedish made K70 hybrid chassis 25" sets (photo attached) - not for the faint hearted! It has the same general chassis layout as the K6 and G6. |

Re: BVWS Winter Bulletin
I was membership secretary of the Yorkshire Archaeological Society for a decade, and they used BACS transfer - the only snag was that not all banks involved consistently transferred the reference with the payment, and reconciliation of payments took weeks, if not months.
