Default The UX-171 iPod amplifier.

A while back I came across some interesting 1927 vintage transformers on ebay which inspired me, so I got the idea to make an amplifier from 1927 vintage parts that would act as an active speaker for an iPod. The hope was if possible it would not contain a single resistor, just valves, transformers and perhaps a capacitor or two.

Along the way I came across some very interesting information on how to calculate the ideal plate to plate resistance for push pull amps from the good folks at MIT. In class A and AB push pull, one tube alters the operating conditions of the other, but not so much in class B.

Anyway I thought I would post the story about this home brew amplifier here, for those interested in 1927 era amplifier technology:

That is beautiful, a work of art. You've put a lot of thought and work into it, I'm impressed.

Andy.

I like it!

Pure fun, but now you've got to load the iPod up with the right tracks to hear through such a thing. I'd suggest 'Making wicky-wacky down in waikiki' for a start.

I was thinking maybe Clara Rockmore's lost Theremin recordings which were found in Bob Moog's basement.
