Default BSR what model? Help

i have had this BSR for about two years, and i would like to find out more about it, the user manual or service manual to do some minor repairs, great little deck but i can't identify the exact model.
in the images on the back of the unit, it says R601 T/T Plinth in pen on the manufacturer label. as far as I know it's from around 1972 to 74 I think.

Yes, this is a late production single record deck from BSR mounted into a Stereosound plinth. This will be a late model series P and not one of their best I'm afraid. BEN on here may well know the precise model number. I kind of lost interest in BSR at this stage of their production life.

I'm fairly sure that it is later than 1974 - probably more like 1980 although I've not seen exactly that model before.

I took a look at the Sticky on BSR decks, and could not find one, even close, the tone arm is particularly distinctive.

Have a look to see if there’s a red label under the deck itself with the model number on it.

P182 is vaguely similar albeit with very different styling.

This was one of last models BSR made to try and compete with the Japanese. It looks nice at a distance, but unfortunately the quality just wasn't up to comparison. BSR and Garrard had a major slice of the world record deck market and lost it. The irony was the Japanese dominated electronics until the mid noughties, and then lost it not due to price and quality but because of the internet and digitisation.

Doesn’t mean its not worth saving though… bit of history… 🙂

I've just found a Youtube video that features a similar looking deck

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR4aFCwNLy0

The deck in the video is almost the same deck as I used in a home made DJ console in around 1980. I bought the turntables from RTVC in Edgeware road for something like £12 each. The performance was pretty poor - they had problems tracking 12" disco mixes with loud bass - and I ended up replacing them with a pair of MP60 turntables with Goldring G800 cartridges.

Did someone call?

That deck was used in the Amstrad TS40 stack system and also an Alba model IIRC. Will dig in my archive see if I can find a model number.
