Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
Hi
I have a Stella dual standard G6 in my collection, I think it was manufactured in 1967. Regards Gary. |

The Stella brand was dropped soon after Philips acquired a controlling interest in Pye, in 1967. Former Stella branded Philips products were then sold with Pye branding, such as cassette and open reel tape recorders.

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
Think it must have been the early 1970s. I don't think they were any single standard 625-line sets with that brand name.
Perhaps this had something to do with the recent acquisition of the Pye brand? Pye, as we know, continued producing their own sets until the Philips G11 was introduced around 1977. EDIT - Post crossed with Dazzlevision above. Worth mentioning the Pye CT200 solid state set had a Philips badged model too. |

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
Stella was the brand used to distribute Philips made products through wholesalers. Have never seen a single standard Stella TV set. Alba was an independent company which gave up making TV sets in 1963.

Hi
That's the set I have, it even has the silver extension running knob still with it. It had a nos LOPT fitted by it's previous owner so works very well on both standards. Regards. Gary. |

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
That Stella looks more elegant than the G25K502 which was the Philips version.
The Philips G18C570 was the Philips badged CT200/1. Looked very like the 20" G8, as I found to my cost! |

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
I have the same sort of leaflet (as posted earlier in this thread), for the Philips G25K501 and it is virtually the same as the ST2500, apart from having a mahogany finish vice teak.

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
If I remember the 501 had some detailing that made it look more like a Dynatron. I was excited to see one of these tucked away in a corner of a house a few years ago, but on close inspection we had a cocktail cabinet conversion. Oh dear.
Appartently a trade disposal house I went to acqured a 501 in the Nineties with the usual untested junk. It aroused the interest of an engineer who tested it and after a few minutes the relay clicked in and it worked! Then the day before I arrived to collect some TVs the boss decided he didn't like it in his warehouse and threw it out onto the junk heap outside. I went to find it, but it had disappeared, I suspect to be another cocktail cabinet. |

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
Quite correct! Apparently, the filigree detail could be hidden by swapping over the front and rear legs.

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
It was offically announced in the April 1970 issue of Practical Television by which time all existing stocks had been disposed of by wholesalers.

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
I'm back!
I've had little time recently due to all sorts of things. My trusty old Manor Supplies pattern generator needing fixing. I was trying to feed video into the Philips monster a couple of weeks ago and it took me far too long to work out that it wasn't producing any squiggles to feed into anything. The RF out was ok but no video out. Then I remembered having a bit of a blonde moment some years ago when I inadvertently tried to feed video into the HT line of something equally as big and horrible as the G6. I was lucky, as it happened. I'd actually only blown a BF194 transistor and a 68 ohm half watt ( I sometimes think I'm the half watt! ). So on a nice sunny afternoon when everyone else are sitting under sunshades and clicking their fingers to produce glasses of cool ale, I was in my workshop trying to fix a G6 with a cold cuppa..... must be mad! So this isn't really progress as such. It's more about proving what does work as opposed to what doesn't. I've fed the full video signal from the Manor Supplies generator into the IF board at the cathode of the DC restorer diode and got myself a nicely synched picture. The contrast is a bit low and I need to replace the cathode resistor in the luminance amp ( it's a bit cooked ) and the associated zener diode as I'm not sure what it should actually be. The original was open circuit. For the moment I've got a 6.8v zener in there as the original diode is a 0AZ268, so I'm assuming 6.8v ?? Still not sure about this. Anyway, what I have here is pretty good news. It's just that damned IF! I previously thought I had sound, well I did, it's just that I only got sound when the system switch on the IF was in the 405 position. There's no sound in the 625 position. The voltage on the AGC diode is constantly 2.2v whether there's a signal or not. Something definitely not right here! So that's about it so far. See picture below for evidence! Cheers for now. Hopefully more as the week progresses. |

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
According to https://datasheet.datasheetarchive.c...ns-110/162.pdf (page 144) it would appear that the OAZ268 is a 4.3v (+- 10%) 230mW Zener diode.

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
Hi. Isn't that the 12v 1.3W zener that gives trouble? Not got the circuit to hand at the moment, I'm afraid.

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
I didn't know they made any 22" dual standard G6 sets I only saw 25" dual standard sets all the 22" I saw were single standard. Did they ever make a 19" G6 ? if they did I didn't see any...
The first dual standard 19" set I saw was A Gec slightly later on a Pye with a rotary multi band tuner that automatically switched standards the same as monochrome Olympic sets. In fact the first single standard sets by Gec Pye and Thorn were still 25" and 19" rather than 20 and 26" now I think of it I can't remember any dual standard 22" sets... |

Re: Alba TC1525 G6 Dual Standard.
I think 19" tubes were introduced around 1969 in the K7 chassis. At least on the continent. In 1970 the 19" model was replaced by the 22" model with the same external dimensions, the 19" tube only being used as a stop gap solution apparently.
To be honest, I'm somewhat surprised that 22" G6 sets were ever made. |
