Default Panasonic NV-460 VCR issue

Hi

I came across and read this interesting topic
https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/showthread.php?t=110926

I have VCR of same model. There's one issue with it. Maybe you can help. The problem is that fast forward and reverse functions fail. Symptoms: when engaging either of them, I can hear loud "click" which I have deduced to mean the engagement of brake.

I have tried to reverse engineer the mechanism up to the point that weh engaging ff/rew the nechanism continues to turn too far and as result the brake is engaged with the help of this part (see attachment). The part in front of the gear is coupled to the gear with some kind of clutch and I think is used to engage break. If I hold the part with finger and activate ff/rew, everything works.

I have also noted that by adjusting mode switch position I can make ff/rew work but the cost is that play and/or cue fails with very nasty sound of gears jumping.

What could be the issue? I have replaced mode switch with NOS part. No effect. Other than this the VCR works fine. I have also replaced PSU caps etc basic stuff.

If anyone has the service manual could you please send it to me or if you have same model vcr, could you please take a photo of gears when cassette is ejected with bottom cover removed? Or any other mechanism position you find appropriate. Maybe the mechanism is misaligned.

Hi. You can use the NV-230 manual as the mechanism is the same:

I have an NV-380 and a G7 which are also D1 decks. I can take photos of those if you like.

Hi

Thank you very much for the info and link. It looks I managed to repair the fault. I collected some courage and despite the lack of alignment instructions in SM I disassembled the mechanism enough to remove the big gear with grooves on both sides. On the upper side (which was not visible until removal) there was a small plastic particle stuck in the very end of groove in the inner end. See photo. This particle prevented the mechanism to fully rotate to the other end. After removing this particle the rew and ff work fine along with remaining functions.

This took long time with all learning and reverse engineering but the unit is cosmetically in very good condition and even the original remote is working.
