Default 500AC melody Maker broken escutcheon glue?

Hi,

The escutcheon/bezel/surround or whatever the correct terminology is on this wood cased melody maker has cracked across completely in one spot,

does anyone know what type of plastic it is and what would be a suitable adhesive to repair it?

These plastic trims are terrible.

They shrink and crack.

I glued the last one with Gorilla Clear glue you need to make sure the ends are clean.

One of the problems is keeping pressure on the joint until the glue has set I used some mini clamps and "splints".

As the trim at the "angle" is clear of the cabinet I used a metal pin to support the back then filled it in epoxy glue.

Even as a Cossor collector and fan I have to admit this trim has not stood the test of time

Cheers

yes this one has clearly shrunk. I can create a temporary jig to hold it while gluing.

Im wondering if something like poly cement would work?

Dichloromethane (Methylene chloride) solvent, available in shops that sell plastic model kits under the brand name "Plasweld" , works on many plastics if they have just cracked, but shrinkage means you may need stuff that fills gaps. I used to use Plastic Padding Type Soft for that sort of job. It doesn't seem to be readily available anymore, but Ronseal High Performace Wood Filler seems to be exactly the same stuff.

Thanks, I'll look into that. It's a simple clean break luckily,

Anyone know what type of plastic it actually is?
