I took would not have thought of the cable...

Good luck with the 8050. They can be a little finnicky and whilst it does work with 'normal' SS/DD diskettes, it's much more reliable with (more expensive) 96tpi diskettes.

Many 'true' GPIB cables have fully-moulded connectors, so can't visually check them for broken wires, only continuity test them. But fortunately these tend to be quite reliably, and maybe its the contacts that are more-prone to getting damaged.

However, the ones with metal-shells that can be opened, often don't have the heavy round cable secured too-well, and I've often found this rather-loose. So my be more-likely to getting wires breaking.
