This chap has scanned a variety of magazine articles from Australia, theory, construction and restoration. Very helpful. Tony |

Thanks for the link Tony - most interesting.
There's an article I spotted that featured in Electronics Australia in November 1983 on how to construct a 1920s-style 'Unadyne' one-vale radio, which was available for a while as a kit: http://messui.the-chronicles.org/valves/1920s1.pdf I have one, which was built as a kit which was a birthday present to British teenager whose family had migrated to Australia. He didn't settle in Oz, so came back to the UK as soon as he could live independently. Rather than take this thread off topic, I'll post a thread in another section of the forum on my Unadyne with some pictures, which might be of interest.

That will be interesting, David. I found several good articles on that site on early radio, an introductory level, but you don't get many written recently. Reflexes, development of early radio, super regens, audio transformers, horn speakers, etc.
I like his reproduction of green cotton covered wire by dying with a mixture of green drawing ink and meths - that's if you can get white cotton covered. |

I dont want to steal the mans thunder, but there is a CD available with all Radio and Hobbies magazines from April 1939 up to about 1960. Its still under ownership of Silicon Chip Publications.
Its very reasonably priced ( I think I paid $60 australian, so about 30 quid UK ) The magazine started as wireless weekly in about 1914, changed its name about the time of WWII, to Wireless and Hobbies, later on became Radio Television and Hobbies, Then to Electronics Australia. As with all digital things made with sand it started to fall apart a bit after that. I cut my teeth on that magazine!! Has a whole plethora of information, very similar to British magazines from the same era. FRom news on new aircraft, to model aeroplanes ( I built my first radio control using their circuit and a rubber escapement) Battery technology. Serviceman stories. Television. News. Valves. A reader built it section, similar to British magazines. All electronics WORKS, as all the writers/contributors were electrical engineers, or at the very least technicians.. I hope I havent abused the rules mods. regards Joe The magazines run from April 1939 to March 1965! THere were a few non published during the war years.
