Default AVO Valve Tester Articles From Radio Bygones Magazine

Gidday from Australia,

I have 2 AVO VCM testers an ex Australian Air force CT160, which works fine, and an ex Telecom Australia VCM MK2 which unfortunately has a meter problem.

Originally the meter was sticking, so I investigated and found the seal keeping dust etc out of the meter had failed and some fine magnetic particles had got into the gap on the meter, I tried cleaning them out but the meter was damaged in the process

Anyway, I have read here about some articles in "Radio Bygones".

I can't seem to find a copy of issues 134 and 141 anywhere. I'm happy to pay for the back issues, it seems near impossible to find them here in Australia.

I have acquired a "Simpson" branded meter at a hamfest for $1, its 25uA! FSD. It looks rather a lot like the AVO one and I'm keen to try it. in place of the broken AVO one.

Thanks and regards,
Raff

Hi Ron,

Yes I still have the old meter from the MkII.
As it turns out the Simpson one isn't going to fit without major surgery so I've kept the original meter in the hope of fixing it.

Regards,
Raff

Hi
Do you still have the Simpson meter and if so would you sell it?
I need a meter for my mk 4 Avo valve tester the Simpson replacement should be a 25 micro amp 1960ohms taut band meter part number 03951.
I am using a meter out of a TT537 Avo transistor tester which I am told is a Taylor model 50 meter. using this I am unable to get full scale deflection with the meter because it is a 50 micro amp meter.
