I met these sets in their first incarnation and hated them for most of the reasons stated. Mikey et al, You have my greatest admiration!
Very well done indeed!

Hi Mikey,
enjoyed reading the essay. With its much improved line timebase and all the other mods this has to be the best CTV25 ever.
Don't forget I still have the Decca CTV22 dual standard set in the workshop. Like Lucy's CTV25 this set has the tripler line output stage so we should have no problems in that department. The Philips tuner is sorted out, five buttons work so that's good enough for us. I have two IF panels for this set. It might be possible to bench test them before installing the best one in the set.
Although the IF amplifier employs silicon transistors it operates from a negative 18 volt supply, The collectors of the transistors are at near chassis potential.
I will introduce the final restoration of this set in a new thread.

DFWB.

Well done as ever Mike!

I think on one of my visits the set was there in all it's naked glory in the hall, a repair well beyond the call of duty! If you have one happy lady at the end of it, it has all been worthwhile.

What a job, I have never seen a set with so many faults to sort out! It reminds me why I stick with good old monochrome sets

Thanks John, Patrick, David, Pete, Bobby and Mark for your kind comments.

Not really John - The set just needed a bit of perseverance - not all that much skill or knowledge required - I live those things to other people.

Crikey - I had forgotten about those other faults Tas. I haven't heard from Lucy for a while so I'm hoping the set is still behaving itself.

I'm looking forward to reading all about that set David. I'll keep an eye out for another spindle so you have 6 working push buttons.

That was the one. I couldn't find anywhere else to put it.

It's only a small step to colour Mark, and after that there's no going back.

Thanks all.

I'll try and upload some pictures again - I've ditched Internet Explorer 11 for the moment and am using Chrome on Windows 8.1 so I'll see if it works any better.

Kind regards.

From Mike.
PS. Just tried attaching pictures in Windows 8.1 with Google Chrome and I get the following errors after the upload counter has reached 100%: (Mods, feel free to delete this bit if it's of no interest. The time and date I tried to upload are: 2013-10-24 17:10 BST and the error is the same in IE 11 and IE 8 on XP.)

Great write-up, Mike. It's so much nicer to get a story in a nice juicy lump.
