Default Korting transmare nightmare....

Hi all.

Just spotted this sitting behind our block of flats. its in a very sorry state. the tube is broken, all the valves are missing as is the back cover. also the cabinet is battered. more than likely passed restoration though....

2 questions, Is it worth anything to anyone? and is it worth restoring?

Thanks.

Shame it's in such poor condition

You don't hear of Korting sets much these days, My Nan and Grandad used to have one (different model) which I remember my Grandad getting up to bat it one whenever the picture decided to turn blue!

Might be worth grabbing it for spares, PCB's scan coils and LOPT's are well worth keeping as spares!

Regards,
Lloyd.

I had one of those years ago as my everyday set. It performed very well.

Hmmm... I will have a look tomorrow and see what bits are worth salvaging. There may even be more goodies as the council are clearing all the sheds and re-roofing them. I managed to get my hands on a mint condition dec vt200 terminal computer a couple of days ago from the same spot so it could be a potential gold mine of sorts... Heres hoping!!

I've got one and it's such a good performer. I did a write up in this thread a while back. The one you found may well be worth saving for bits.

Personally I'd grab it, before it gets taken away. Doubt it would be a resto project but as has been said, the guts/spares will be handy. It's not as if you come across one of these every day!

I've repaired many of these years ago - they are an excellent, well made and reliable for a hybrid colour set.
If nothing else, the plug-in panels and slider controls are worth keeping as well of what Lloyd mentioned.

I can't quite see if the knobs are still present on the slider controls but if they are, please rescue them for me. One of mine is missing its brushed aluminium brightwork.

It looks like one of the early ones with the "normal" button in the middle of the control panel.

Cheers

Hi all. That settles it then if it's still there when i get home I will see if I can sneak it in past HWMBO

Tas, you're more than welcome to any parts off it. I think all the knobs are still on it I know the sliders are too. It's the one with the 'ideal' colour button too.

Thanks everyone.

For interest (or not!) the models were 54660 and 54676, I think. There was a cheaper "Baird" version for the Thorn TV rental group, with no tint or tone controls and a card back cover instead of plastic.

Hi
Don't forget to save the tuner - I think someone was after one on here a while age.
I don't think the back cover was bakelite, Mike - but it did have a mesh grille on the top which meant you could admire the glowing valves when the programmes became boring - and it kept it well ventilated. There was also a version in white, would you believe!

Tas, I've managed to get 3 sliders complete with the bright work. Also 1 of the knob brights. So pm me your address and I will send you them

I also managed to save The lopt and tripler (blue Siemens curly wurly job) and the plug in cards if anyone needs any of the above let me know via this thread.

Hi. The business I used to work for in the 70 s sold and rented a lot of these sets. Made in Austria, my boss bought them when he couldn't get enough UK made sets during the colour boom years. The Korting hybrid was a good set with high reliability and was well designed for ease of service, I still have an audio panel . Richard.Allen.
