Philco 52-540 (EAT MY DUST! HAH!)
I hereby claim victory over Philco in the name of the House of Steph!
Borrowed picture: http://radioatticarchives.com/images...%29_Latino.jpg The radio I talked about in this thread https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7422 passed its soak test. Had it playing for about four and a half hours non-stop on a few different stations and it worked just fine. Alignment was spot on. Listened to it for an hour this morning while getting ready for work...and no problems that I could notice. If you see the pictures of my collection (posted at http://photobucket.com/albums/b210/s...%20collection/ ) you can see my radio sitting in front of the huge computer tower - next to a humidifier (not in use at the time) on a little wood table. YAY! Last edited by stephanie; 10th Feb 2006 at 4:30 pm. |

Re: Philco 52-540 (EAT MY DUST! HAH!)
Well, here's the front up-close.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...n/MVC-835F.jpg and here's the back: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...n/MVC-838F.jpg I tried to get the glowing valve heaters....but even by covering the flash with a finger, I couldn't do it. Anyway, the IF can with the brown label was the one that gave me all the trouble. The one to its (camera) right is OK. Right now I'm listening to News Radio 88 (at 880 khz) - where they're talking about some massive snow-storm about to hit the New York area. The funny thing is, that line you see marked on the dial is precisely at 880...this station I'm listening to apparently was the radio's previous owner's favourite station. That's how I know the alignment is back to factory standards. |
