Dent & Johnson electric gram turns up.
I have just aquired a Dent & Johnson of Linwood Gram with amp from the late twenties.
I have two amps a speaker and a turntable (wind up) with a BTH p/u, sadly no sign of the Dent & Johnson original arm and p/u. I did a thread a few months ago about his p/u, HMV bought out the patent for the p/u in the early 30's. I have all the letters from Mr Johnson to the Gramophone company and the replies, so this is a nice find to have the equipment as well. I am going to wire it all up later and see if it works. Cheers Trevor

Re: Dent & Johnson electric gram turns up.
Would the big knob with "Raise Pitch" have been a speed control for an electric motor driven turntable? It seems rather hidden away to be a tone control.

Quite possibly, the set up here though is a wind up turntable with a magnetic pick up head. There was a model produced though with an AC motor and it may have had electronic control. I didn't have time though this weekend to work out the connections and check it out, perhaps next weekend. Cheers Trevor

Re: Dent & Johnson electric gram turns up.
Hi Chipp.
It does work, the interstage transformer was o/c but a rummage in the loft found an identical replacement. The speaker I have though is rough but the chap who had it has another that is mint. Its quite loud but a little down on bass responce which due the type will be correct. I will be handing the whole lot back in a week or two after its all tidied up, he wants to put it up for sale along with all of the original documentation about the patent and letters from the Gramophone Company. Its been nice to fix and really quite good to see (hear) a piece so early working again. Cheers Trevor
