Yes Paul I thought so, they are available at buyabattery.co.uk in multiples of 10. You have to pay carriage so I ordered a few boxes of 10 to make it worthwhile,

It is worth adding extra cells to make up the extra voltage compared to dry cells. ie, 6 times 1.5v is 9v, 6 times 1.2v is 7.2 volts. Most radios work fine on reduced voltage, as they were made to run with semi flat batteries anyway, but there can be a difference in sensitivity and tape recorder performance with the full voltage supplied

THanks guys you have inspired me to get the charger out.
Large 6volt battery now charged and fitted in my Roberts RT1.

All other batteries now charged up, now to test all transistor radio's.
