Default Battery holding sponge for Hackers etc

I had just purchased a Hacker Herald, all complete except for the circular sponge pads that should be on the lid to hold the batteries snugly in position.
I wondered "How the hell am I going to find those" and just kept them in mind. Whilst burning some CD's on the PC the circular packing pieces in the CD cake caught my eye. "Hey, what about those? Nice thickness with reasonable give".
So I tried a pair using some double sided tape so I can change them for real ones if I ever get the chance. Certainly not a trick for the purist but they do the job!

I just replace them with those self-adhesive felt pads you can get from most stationery shops etc. They look nothing like the originals but do the job and are hidden inside the radio.

I've also bought sheets of thin foam as used for seat padding and cut out the shapes I want. Not easy to cut the shapes out neatly and uniformly though.

I'd not thought of the CD packing pieces though, must remember that one .

I've used a sheet of foam offcut from local market and used a set of cork borers (hole punches) for the circular bits.
