Default HT8950 voice changer IC

My 10 year old has decided that he'd like a voice changer. Rather than buying one (how complex can they be?) I thought I'd look at what's involved in building one.

I've tracked down the HT8950 which seems like a pretty straightforward chip to use - but I can't find them in NZ! Has anyone played with one of these, and/or seen them for sale anywhere?

This Hong Kong eBay dealer has some, if you don't mind buying 25: http://cgi.ebay.com/PACK-OF-25-HT895...QQcmdZViewItem
