Re: Philips G8 G22K522
Progressing really well. Nice to see that the tube looks nice and bright.

Re: Philips G8 G22K522
To put you out of your misery, R5554 is the damping resistor across the linearity coil. It's at the very bottom left of the line scan panel. The advice to replace it with a wirewound part is good, but I tend to agree your striations are due to pick-up in the wiring loom, but do check that resistor - remove it to measure the resistance.

Re: Philips G8 G22K522
That's odd - the fuse should be on the opposite side of the panel - maybe you've confused the print and component sides of the layout? It's directly below the linearity coil - stands up off the board. I don't think there were many changes to the layout from the 520 right through to the end of production.

Re: Philips G8 G22K522
Sorry for the late reply
I had a look online to see if I could find a photo of one that matches mine, and this layout looks to be identical, but only the line scan panel. I did think that too but some other components have moved on the boards too, like the large transistor. It confused me at first, but I guess now the panel's been swapped over at some point in its life. Thanks '77 |

Re: Philips G8 G22K522
The linearity coil is at the top of the panel, roughly in the middle (when it's the right way up). It will have a 1k5 resistor across it.

Re: Philips G8 G22K522
Ah thank you, I couldn't find it for the life of me, seems pretty tucked away there. Will check it in a little while and go from there, i'll also try sort the wiring out a little bit better in case too
Thanks for the help '77 |

Re: Philips G8 G22K522
Returning to the G8 to finally finish it up, things have just got in the way putting it on hold for a little while. Unfortunately the linearity coil doesn't seem to make any difference to the linearity so I'm wondering if the coil is damaged. I'll have to check that, I wouldn't be surprised considering that the volume control and convergence pot 11 (R1936) are also broken. I also think R5554 is at fault, even moving any wires I'm still getting the striations, so will have to check. I wonder if that could also play a part in my linearity fault, considering its location?
I think that the volume control is 10k ohms but I cannot find anything about R1936. I also think there may be an AGC fault. It can have a fairly noisy picture, and sometimes colour can fade to b/w even with the control up high, but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm that it may be AGC related, or is it something else? Sometimes pressing the channel selector more can improve it. The channel selectors are clean and look to be making good contact. On a more positive note the tube seems to be waking up more and more!
