Default Pye Piper Pcb Burnt...?

Is it normal for early radios that use PCB to have dis colourd around some of the valves . It is more prevelant around the dropper, this has also had some sort of repair as 2 resistors have been tagged on

This was obviously a real cheap set in its day looking at the build quailty and I am just trying to work out if it will be worth the effort to restore even though it has cute looks about it ....

Yes it is. Sometimes it causes a problem, but not often. These sets are cheap put they do work. There are two examples here:

Cheap, cheerful and they do work.

Cheers,

Unfortunately, yes.

It can cause real problems if the PCB is carbonised to the point where it's electrically leaky between the valve base pins- resorting to drilling out grid pin holes, sleeving and wire links is not unknown!

If it's not too bad a bit of scraping and TLC will do- it's not as if the set will be used for long periods any more.

Just noticed Steve was quicker off the mark.....

Well maybe I wil give it a second chance then....after what have I got to loose....
Oh and I also forgot to mention that I noticed the ceramic is missing on some parts of the dropper should this be something to get concerned about and loose sleep ?

This thread may worth a look. Its shows how I got around the problem with the UL41 grid leakage due to carbonizing around the valve base:

This was a problem on early Pye colour TV's, the only cure was to cut the print away from the offending pins on the valve bases and hard wire them.
