Default What have I just bought???

OK. Found this is a little hidden shop and thought well £20 seems cheap. Maybe it wasn't but it looked it. Now my issue is what on earth is it?? I have looked inside and seen Ferranti on a couple of parts and then Ormondi or ormonti ?

Any ideas? Pictures below.

While its worth the price,it could be homebrew from the late 20s early 30s.

Hamish probably assumed that you would know that it is a radio. From the couple of interior shots that's certainly what it looks like although we'd need an overall interior shot and the valve identification numbers to give you more detail.

It is most probably a battery set and will require at least an HT battery maybe 60 to 120volts and an LT battery maybe 1.5 or 2 volts and possibly a grid bias battery with various tappings up to 9volts. It probably dates from around 1930.

HTH

It looks rather like someone has "added" radio bits to an extension loudspeaker.

I agree with Chris' thoughts.

Ormond was a brand name used for extension speakers in 1920s... do a forum search

Just been looking through some early 30s catalogues and every speaker cabinet made by 'Blue Spot' has exactly the same centre feature, the circle and the four curves, I'll scan and post them asap.

This is one of the pages, there are six speaker cabinets in total, all have different outside shape, none the same as the one antspants has got, but all have the same centre feature.

Almost certainly a home brew job using a commercially produced speaker enclosure and a battery circuit probably from wireless world or a similar publication. and almost definitely a battery set.
can you take a pic square on with the back removed, so we can get an idea of the circuit and how many valves it uses.
well worth your £20.
