You're probably right, I grew up in a council house built in the late 1920's, at some point an "H" aerial had been installed, which we used right up until 1985, there was also a cable system with cast iron boxes at the end of the street which powered the system. The sets were connected up with a multi-pin plug with various pins at right angles to each other.

I suppose for council tenants TV must have started to creep in in the 1950's and 60's?

Here's a Band I 'H' and a Band III array located above the defunct Threshers Off-Licence in Bramley High Street, near Guildford. They both are pointing to the London transmitters and seem to be in good condition.

Guildford must have been a weakish signal area as it's a double 5 element band 3,
presumably screened a bit by the North Downs?
Looks in amazing condition for at max a 52 year old aerial system.
Presumably the chimney hasn't been used too much in that tiime

Congratulations Ron. This must be the best preserved '405' aerial! Remarkable indeed with those 11ft ch1/B1 elements, also surviving the hurricane winds of 20years ago...

Was in Darlington last Sunday, quite a few surviving Pontop/Burnhope aerials around there. Didn't have the camera on me this time!

Hi
I was in Dundee yesterday doing some jobs, what a place for really good 405 aerials! Its like going back 40 years, some are really excellent and some falling down but its the sheer quantity that remain. I took a picture of one with the phone which doesn't do it justice.
