Re: KB dual standard with wood worm !
The best stuff is the Cuprinol woodworm treatment in an aerosol as you can inject it straight into the holes. Once treated put in a bin liner and leave somewhere warm to let them wake up, eat the poisoned wood, then snuff it
To me they look fairly old holes as there is no dust in the holes so they may have already vacated though it’s too high a risk as there may still be one or two in there waiting to wake up and emerge ! Once you are confident that they have either all vacated or have snuffed it then it is worth trying to inject a runny wood glue into the holes to try and rebuild some strength into the cabinet as they may well have eaten quite a lot of the interior wood that wouldn’t be visible externally . Re: KB dual standard with wood worm !
There are several woodworm threads if you search the forum. People tend to have strong feelings about woodworm and you will find a range of opinions.

Re: KB dual standard with wood worm !
When I had the same issue with a 1949 Cossor 916 TV after much research I decided to put it (the cabinet) in the freezer for a week on "fast freeze".
Don't ask how I managed to get management approval for this! Two years later, not a single crumb of foss as emerged, and now I need ideas of how to fill the holes in the veneer.

Re: KB dual standard with wood worm !
Freezing will kill any wormies, but won't necessarily kill all the eggs. The eggs have to survive freezing winter temperatures in woodland, so are difficult to kill.

Re: KB dual standard with wood worm !
HI,
thanks for the advice on the possible approaches, and sorry if I have opened a " can of worms " on the subject.

Re: KB dual standard with wood worm !
Hello,
I had the same problem with a 1938 Koerting Honoris ten years ago. I removed the chassis and took the cabinet to the sauna. Dry heat of 95° C for three hours did the job. No more wood worm activities have been noticed since, no chemicals applied but a fresh layer of varnish. Regards, Joe P.S.: Having a close look, you can still see once there were worm holes. But I do not want them to become invisible. It is an old radio and has got a story to tell. |

Whether freezing or heating the case, there is always the risk that damage may result.

Re: KB dual standard with wood worm !
I just douse my wormy sets in liberal amounts of woodworm killer, seems to do the trick, either that or they have already done their thing and left! Most newer worm killer liquids are water based now, which isn’t really good for finished wooden surfaces, so look for a spirit based one, if you have a good local DIY shop then it will be worth asking them if they have such a thing, I asked in ours and they were able to recommend a suitable one, can’t remember the make, but it was woodworm and anti-rot treatment in one, stinks like mad, but so far, no new holes in anything!

Re: KB dual standard with wood worm !
That is the best and cleanest way to ged rid of worms:
http://www.holzwurmbekaempfung.de/holzwurm.html He is a long time friend of mine, inside a special room heat and moisture were computer controlled added. The procedure takes always a weekend, he starts his "machine" on Saturday and on Monday everything is fine! He works for museums and customers like you and me. His way is free of poison, poison which you breath later in your room and makes you ill. The price for a TV cabinet might be 30-50 Euros, depends on the size. I don`t know if you have this kind of service in GB, shipping a cabinet is expensive, too. Ask museums with furnitures. But maybe you have people in your world which travel to Germany. He is located close to Mönchengladbach, there is a british army facility! It was big enough that we had here BFBS-Television! Good luck! German Dalek
