My TV12AM has a sort of 'putty green' mask, not sure if that counts as very pale green

This set came without a back cover. Fortunately a fellow Forum member has donated a TV24 back and with a certain amount of modification I'm sure it can be made to fit the smaller TV22.
The lower edge of the back has already been trimmed to fit.
The TV24 has an extra row of ventilation holes and these are exactly the same measurement that has to be cut out in order that the TV24 back will fit the smaller set.

It was my intial intention to secure the two back cover parts together using rivits. However, we must consider safety, there is always that danger that the rivits might come in contact with the internal metalwork so instead I'm using nylon nuts and screws instead.
This job is taking ages to do. The next stage is make a bottom cover for the cabinet.

Hello David,
Now come clean. Don't you wish you had left that delicate Bakelite baby in the Biffa bin? Late nights till 2am making backs out of bits of junk..I'll have to strike you off my list if you continue with this nonsense.
Next you will be informing us how you re-ingraved the knobs..This is not what is expected of the tough North East of England, home of steel men and miners.
I can solve your problem. Bring it down on your next visit and let uncle John deal with it.. Quite painless and all over in a split second.
I thought you might like my picture of the TV22's they released in the Bournemouth area. I don't think Bush dared send these north of Watford..
[That back does look good.] Regards, John.

Hi John,
A TV22 with a pink mask? I've never seen anything like that before. must have been a special edition model.
Nothing fazes us here in the North-East. Making things from bits of junk is second nature to us up here in Gateshead.

Getting that TV24 back cover was an incredible stroke of luck, constructing one from scratch would've been the most challenging task of the whole excellent restoration. From your description adapting the TV24 rear to fit the TV22 was a challenge itself, the results look excellent.

As for the pink TV22 shown by John I've never seen one myself either, I thought it was only Murphy who produced "Coloured" or "Painted" sets!

Cheers,
Brian

Even the corners of the cabinet back receive attention. Again for safety nylon screws are employed as the fasteners.

Good work on making the back fit, but I notice it will need more cutting to allow the focus lever to emerge!

How about this?
A piece of an old cabinet back has been cut and shaped to fit the underside of the cabinet. A piece of "L" shaped plastic strip is used to join the two parts of the cabinet back together.
On post #70 Mark mentioned the focus lever. I'll see what can be done about that. The lever has been broken off from the focus magnet so I'll see if it is feasible to make a replacement. A slot will have to be cut at the top of the cabinet back for the lever.

David

This drawing of a TV22 focus lever has been posted on the Forum in the past - possibly by someone called Malcolm. It may be some help to you if you make another.

Thanks for the useful information. Just a few minor jobs to do now and the restoration will be complete.

A superb job inside and out. One would think that was the original back cover. Well done!

I won't say another word...

I think Bush used the same stampings, with slight modifications to cover the models TV11-TV24 and even further into the 30 series. Some backs even have another model number printed under the metal plate on the CRT bowler hat protector. I suppose it was a simple matter to stamp out control knob openings and add 'skirts' etc.
Yours has certainly turned out well and thinking about it we are probably going to have to replicate more backs in the future as together with control knobs, tend to be the first to get lost. John.

As a temporary expedient the Bush will be hooked up to the excellent Darius channel B4 modulator and the Pineapple field store standards converter.
I bought the Pineapple in 1993. It is installed into an Eddystone box. The Darius modulator is on loan from another Forum member.
The Salvage Squad have never restored a TV set. They only did big stuff.
