Default Analogue Satellite from Astra 1 ends 30th April 2012.

This may be your last chance for a 'live' analogue TV feed, with Teletext? The German analogue service ends on 30th April. If you still have an old Analogue satellite receiver, Astra 1 at 19 Deg East is easily received with a standard minidish in central England and probably most of the UK? Why not give it a try?

Peter.

Satellite just isn't the same without the sparklies!!! Either black or white depending which way you were off by.

So easy to set the dish. No need for any signal meters, or relying on a green bar on screen - just adjust for minimum sparklies! Thought that I might mention that Eurosport is still on analogue until 30th April and is in the English language on one of the audio channels.

Yes we've been watching Eurosport free that way for ages - it'll be sadly missed!

It also carries Teletext which is actually very fast.

Dear oh dear ....

Andy

Yep I remember well, we bought an analogue satellite system in 1992 for the promise of "free Sky 1 and Sky Sports" which they were....until Murdoch got 1 million people hooked and suddenly started charging a fee for what had been free. Ho hum....

But for a long time you could still get Sky News and MSNBC free to air, and Eurosport. Eventually only German channels were available but that still meant Eurosport.

My dad passed away in 2008 and mum hasn't bothered with the analogue satellite system, but as far as I know it still works. Ah the sparklies....and setting it up was a doddle. Dad and I set it up, he adjusting the angle of the dish on the wall and me reporting back on picture quality and signal strength.

Out of curiosity - are there any analogue satellite broadcasts left that can be received in the UK?
