Re: Broken Bakelite radio repair
Nice work, I think the red works well on that set, makes the dial print stand out nicely,

Re: Broken Bakelite radio repair
Nice job and better than scrapping a nice looking set.
What is it, looks a bit Philips, but don’t think it is? John |

Re: Broken Bakelite radio repair
Hi
thank you all for the kind words yes the "hot rod" red really makes the dial stand out.. i dont like to invent on vintage radios i like to respect their originality but this time i did it just because it was a scrap set and i had nothing to loose. nobody would care about repairing it because it was so broken. It is a siera radio wich is basically a rebranded philips you can actually use a philips chassis inside this cabinet, they are identical the chassis model is S270u i recapped it and put a diode in series with the dead rectifier tube, also changed the dropping resistors and it works fine! |

Re: Broken Bakelite radio repair
Ola Andrewausfa , merlinmaxwell and all others
here is another broken scrap radio i was given by an old repair tech and it got saved the brown doesnt match very well but i can always correct it later it was broken and had burn-damage on the inside because ot the dropper resistor it works fine after a recap ,some tubes and a new mains dropper Last edited by PortugalTV; 14th Nov 2018 at 9:29 pm. |

Re: Broken Bakelite radio repair
the bakelite was so bad that i could not polish it around the knobs due to wear of the fingers rubbing while turning the knobs so i had to sand and clearcoat the entire radio. thats why it has the glossy look the radio is a schaub libelle but the schematic doesnt match the radio because this variation was produced for the portuguese market the closest schematic i found to guide me through the repair was for a schaub "Viola" viola means acoustic guitar in Portuguese in the dial you can see 2 bands : OM and OC Onda Média = medium wave Onda Curta = short wave the grille cloth is not original, it is a scrap piece from other radio i restored, i think it was from a large telefunken Last edited by PortugalTV; 14th Nov 2018 at 9:28 pm. |
