Default Junk shop meter

Not quite in the AVO class, but works perfect. Fitted an AA and the two lower
resistance rages are ok. All it needs is a "battery dry 35" if I ever require the high range to function.

Wondering when the P.O. took this out of service?

Another small meter added to the collection.

I thought I had the exact same thing but it turns out to have a different bottom scale. It calls itself "minitest" by G.E.C. - but clearly the same basic design.

I have seen a similar clear Perspex knob fitted on a GEC meter, perhaps this PO type was manufactured by them.

Just had a look inside the case, it has stamped in the plastic..EE BFD.

Whether this refers to English Electric, who did have a very large factory in Bradford W.Yorks, I do not know.

This looks like a "Meter multi function 12..." something. Probably an "A" or "B". I have a "C" and a "D" so it's not one of those. Not sure what the battery dry 35 is. I think it might be one of those 15 volt avo types with the contacts at each end.
The "Meter multi function", particularly the later types C&D are still occasionally seen in use. These were designed for bench or exchange equipment use rather than for faulting telephone circuits.

Mine still has an old battery in it and it is indeed a 15V one.

I have cleaned off a large sticky label on the back, to reveal 12C.

Yes the "Battery dry 35" contacts are for a double ended type.

A MMF 12c from a different manufacturer then. Mine looks different to that, and is actually manufactured by AVO. Is yours also 20,000 ohms per volt? Quite nice small meter(and very useable). I would have liked a higher dc volts range and an anti paralax mirror behind the needle. I still use mine from time to time if I am playing with a radio in my lunchbreak(My 12C lives in my BT van). We can't get the 15 volt batteries from stores any longer though.

Hi Brunel, I have a P.O. M.M.R. No 12C, in a different style case to yours, this one is dated 28 August 1974 and came from the BT scrap pile many years ago. I glued together the broken case and have used it ever since, I have the leather protective case for it too, good little meters these .

Regards, Mick.
