Thank you! Site now lightning-fast to load on my old machine and browser, search box works well too, although (strangely) I can still only use 'Quick Reply' to post this message.

Much better. I like the simple but effective placement of the search.

Well done.

Looks great and I'm glad it doesn't have that predictive text thing that the other one did.

Can't help thinking it needs to, clearly, explain its purpose, maybe something like "Forum Search" or "Search the Forum" could be added somewhere?

Regards
David

Many websites have a search box and very few feel it necessary to say what you are searching. Logic would suggest it's the site the search is on (unless the site itself is a search engine, which this site clearly isn't).

I've rejected this option as a matter of principle, just like some people choose not to have a TV set so I've chosen not to have a high-speed internet connection at home. I think it would have a destructive influence on family life as well as being a potential invasion of privacy.

As a website designer and forum owner I cannot make allowances for the tiny fraction of visitors who only have dial-up speed connection, in the same way as I cannot make allowances for the tiny fraction who insist on using ancient computers and browsers.

I go with what the majority use, and that is equipment, browsers and internet connections from the 21st century.

I have just tweaked the header code a bit so it should resize down better in Internet Explorer on small screens.

Thanks Paul.

The new search facility works really well on my machine, both in terms of display and in function. (Windows 7 and Firefox 11.0).

I just thought I would bump this thread.

I have been using this new search facility now for some time and it is really effective. There is a tremendous amount of good information in past threads on this site and now we have an effective tool to find that information.

Thanks again to Paul S.
