Philco remote control radio!
The restoration was finished a while ago , I had the cabinet restored , replaced all the usual capacitors , made a new battery pack for the remote , the remote sends a pulsing sig to the remote receiver seen on the right , the sig actuates a solenoid like a stepper motor , connected to a rotary switch , which in turn selects ,a pre set coil ,I had fun with the remote it didn't always work , I found the rotor was returning to quick sending pulses to fast , the solenoid couldn't keep up , an adjustment on the air brake cured the problem , I didn't like the sound too much bass , even at min on the tone control, so I fitted a tweeter and a mid range , plus a crossover from an old Philips speaker. much better now . A 120 volt tx fitted on it's own little shelf on the left. It must have been made for the UK/ European market ,as it has a long wave pre set coil.

Re: Philco remote control radio!
A very comprehensive description of how the remote works can be found on the Radiomuseum Google Philco 39-116rx. Mick.

As always outstanding work, and seeing the radio and the remote control to day I must say the quality just smacks you in the face. Kev. |

Re: Philco remote control radio!
Just how did you cut those apertures for the tweeter and mid range units - did you have to remove the grille cloth first?

Re: Philco remote control radio!
Yes it was very interesting , I like a challenge ,I answer to Edwards question regarding the holes for the extra spk's , I should have made it clear that the speaker cloth had to be replaced .
I have fitted an input socket / pre amp ,to enable me to play my cassette /Dab radio/blue tooth through it . Mick. |
