I use a Philips 543A with an mp3 lead, and it sounds great! plenty of bass and treble, with that mid position bass/treble boost setting.! I agree-it does keep the sets alive, and makes them more appealing to mates when they come round.

IanJ is right, and some friends actually get quite suprised that the old wooden box on the shelf can make such sounds!
