Coax to 3.5 aerial.
Hi, I have just picked up a tiny 5.5 inch b/w crt (Working) to use while my colour set is in need of repair
It has a 3.5mm ext. aerial socket; is there any way i can create a custom coax to 3.5mm cable? I have read that headphones can work so could i possibly cut the jack wire off an old pair of headphones, and the wire to an old coax cable and join the wires? It will only be temporary. Thanks |

You mean one of these?

Re: Coax to 3.5 aerial.
Thank you for the replies. I was just wondering as I'd have liked to try and get a picture tonight, but I think it'd be best to wait.
Thanks |

Come on with your Hitachi!!!! Put the correct part of the circuit on here and I'll id your faulty components. Lawrence mentioned the site it's on but I'm struggling to download.

Improvise something if you want, what's the worst that could happen? In all seriousness, I prefer a short "pigtail" of thin coax, even audio screened lead, with suitable connectors on each end, over a rigid adaptor, because less strain will be put on the jack socket.

Re: Coax to 3.5 aerial.
Would literally cutting two bits of wire, 1 coax, 1 headphones and twisting them together (covering with electrical tape) and plugging in and playing work?
I don't really want to chop up the coax lead if there's no point. Thanks |

Yes. If you've got a reasonably strong signal, I'd expect a perfect picture, despite the mismatch.
What make & model is it?

Re: Coax to 3.5 aerial.
I will try making one. I have a Maxims 5.5 inch b/w TV.
They’re generic brands with many names. Thanks |

Re: Coax to 3.5 aerial.
I have almost certainly got a 3.5mm to coax male lead left over from an RF converter that got used to change the audio offset on a VCR a few years ago.

Re: Coax to 3.5 aerial.
I shall definitely look into buying one, if my custom home made version doesn't work.
I didn't realise that these existed, to be honest. Thanks |
