Default 405 lines in Gibraltar

Hi All

Does anyone know very much about the history of 405 line TV broadcasting in Gibraltar?

There doesn’t seem to be much online. All I have gleaned is that the analogue signal till the end was VHF, and used to travel quite far up the coast of the Costa del Sol - but unspecified as to whether this was only ever 625.

Does anybody know if 405 was ever broadcast terrestrially, or was it cable-only? When did the switchover to 625 occur?

Any info gratefully received to satisfy my curiosity.

Funny you should mention Gibraltar as I nearly posted this picture yesterday in the "KB 'ghost' sign" thread in "General Vintage Technology Discussions"

Those signs may pre-date any television on the rock, but I wonder how many 405 line sets passed through those doors?

I was there on a business trip six years ago, and had a spare day before my flight to look around.

Here is the rest of the album, I don't think I captured any TV aerials of that era, but there is some seriously old telephone line plant.

Some info on GBC Gibraltar here
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibr...ng_Corporation
The main analogue transmitter was on Ch E6 band 3,system B..There was a small relay on Ch E12..Both closed at the end of 2012.
Think they're now broadcasting
DTT on UHF, there's some DAB on band 3.
Mediumwave is still on air (1458 KHz)
Maybe there were some early tests with 405 prior to 1962.I don't believe Rediffusion
had a wired TV system there like in Hong Kong with 405 being used.
