Default Bi-Pak shop location

Where was Bi-Pak's shop location? - Somewhere south of Cambridge comes to mind.

This question follows on from a discussion on this thread:

A1170 (was once A10) Ware Hertfordshire.

About here

Still worth a visit for the bulbs/electrical shop a bit nearer the centre.

When did that close?

I remember going to an electronics shop when I was very young with my grandfather, who lived in Ware (Warner Road). Probably that one.

Good question... maybe in the mid/late 80's at a guess.
It was a useful place - had Jackson capacitors etc not just the packs they were known for.

Thanks folks.

I went there once in '78 to buy some of the Fairchild uLogic gates (RTL technology). These were packaged in plastic T0-5 style cases with gold plated leads. How devices have moved on since these trailblazers of the 60s!

I was there around 82-85 so that makes sense.

When I was a lad in the early/mid 70's I used to order from Bi-Pak.

I bought a few components from Bi-Pak, 1970's would have been. They were very quick - first order to them was posted Sunday evening, got the components Thursday. And that was payment by cheque, which they obviously didn't wait to clear before shipping.

Talking with schoolmates, they also had the same experience, very fast delivery.

I remember Bipak from the late 70s / early 80s. In their original shop it was quite an aladdin's cave.

Later on they moved down the road to larger premises which had previously been occupied by someone selling ex government test gear.

However, their heart didn't seem fully in it and every time I went there was less stock. It was no suprise when it closed.

Didn't they change their name from something (awkward) like 'Bi-Prepak' to the easier to remember and say 'Bipak' ?

Nope. Two different companies. Separate adverts in magazines like Everyday Electronics.
