Vintage Elliott 750Vdc meter.
Whilst clearing my shed I came across this meter. I'm not sure of it's age, but it must be 70 years old. It has been apart in the past and someone has put a mark on the scale at 500V.
It reads about 26Kohm across the terminals, so it's about 19.5K/volt. The button on the connection board is a 'push-to-test', I think it removes the damping from the movement that's normally on. Due to where my Dad and uncle both worked I'm fairly sure of what it was used for... Anyone like to hazard a guess for what this might have been? Answers on a post card please.... Regards, SJM. |

Re: Vintage Elliott 750Vdc meter.
You're all too good!
Yes I think it was used by Nottingham City Transport for their trolleybuses. Both my dad and uncle worked for them. My uncle was with them from before the war till 1971. I'm not sure if it goes back to the days of of the trams or not. I've not tried it at high voltage, as I've not worked out how to get inside it yet. I'll get a new strap and feet for it and a good polish. Its in good condition, with a few fag burns from blokes on the tower wagon! Thanks for looking. SJM |

A nice piece of equipment. I don't imagine you ever want to part with it, but if you do i recommend being selective as it is just the sort of instrument that is now sought after for being made into an anachronistic nixie clock.

Yes Dave, it's a lovely piece of gear. Both my dad and uncle used to tell me stories of nights out sorting out faults on 'frogs' and other overhead cables. It's staying with me in my little workshop. Steampunked it won't be! SJM
