Hi Workshoppers,

I intend to bring a BUSH DAC90a - because it seems you can't get in without one
A Ferguson 325A - Should be a nice one to get me going.
and a Marconi RG 11A table top radiogram - to provide variety for when the experts get tired of looking at JUST radios.

Just as a thought - with all these DAC90 around, would it not be wise to have an isolation transformer around in case of slip ups? Please realise I'm not trying to start a "flame war" on the use of these things but I understand from experienced engineers that these things are a "must have" (If idea upsets anyone you'll know where I'll be on the 27th)

See you all there

I hope to gain a lot from watching and listening.

I'll be bringing

Dynatron Atlantis - I've sorted the AM sections AF11x and it's now working fine but need to replace them in the VHF. I have the components for this. If anyone's bringing a signal generator I'd appreciate if they could show me how to align a set or indeed watch how they do theirs.

HMV 1119 which I hope to pick up this weekend. This will be my first valve radio to restore and I'd really appreciate if someone could look at with me and point out all the whys, what's and wherefores. I doubt I'll have components for this but will attempt to get some.

If I'm feeling really masochistic I might bring along a Mullard module to replace the AFs.

I seem to have more telly's than radio's in my 'tuit' pile at the mo. I might bring the huge Ferguson 308T I bought at W/B for £2! The heaters light up and it hums thro' the speaker so it's very nearly there! And a KB Royal Star QVP 20 that has been collecting dust since last summer. And of course the Aurora and a DVD player to test them with.

I'll bring as many trays of caps/res/valves as I can get in the car, I'm sure we can all help each other out with spares if needed.

Excellent stuff, and contrary to popular belief, DAC90s are not a minimum qualification for attention - we need to be a bit careful, otherwise HCS and Fernseh will appear with a big wheelie bin.....

Payment from

Paul Stenning
Ian B

Thanks both!

Hi peoples,

Will you all have the trader sheets and info you need. If you haven't and you intend buying the disc's, do you want me to set up a print facility for you?

One can be arranged if it gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling, otherwise i'm not convinced we need one - I will go on individuals preference really.

Cheers

I was planning to bring my laptop and printer so I can print out any data from my DVD-ROM. However if people can bring printed copies with them it will allow us to get on with the repairs without any hold-up waiting for the data.

I'll also bring a few DVD-ROMs and I'm sure discounts can be negotiated on the day.

Hi all,
Apologies for the lateness but I'm afraid I can't attend this session due to unforseen family circumstances.
I hope that the day is a sucsess and that I will hear about it later.
Maybe I could attend later in the year as I was very much looking forward to meeting you all.
Apologies,
Rob

Sorry, I voted without reading the thread properly
I'd be more than happy to attend a future event though. Would be good to have one in the Midlands.

A friendly request from the man laying on the power.
Each person will be allocated ONE 13A socket from the common supply, with a nominal allowance of 2A.
These will be located in four blocks of six sockets.
Please ensure you bring with you;
a) A suitable plug in 30mA RCD to protect you and your equipment
b) A 3M extension lead fused at 3A and whatever multiway adaptors you may require.
Following these guidelines should help prevent interruption of the common supply.
Please let me know by PM if you have any special requirements, or cannot conform to the above.
Thanks, Rob.

Hi Rob

I'm going to nip down the hall sometime today to check the socket facilities and trip configuration and will confirm later, I'm sure as it's a public building it will conform to the latest regs regarding trip limits etc and the socket positions and numbers from memory are reasonable.

I'll post some pictures of the interior if I can.

Cheers Chris, if you could have a pace out of the cable runs please.
Sean's got my mobile number if you need to give us a ring.

Hi workshoppers! and Rob the socket man.

Hopefully you can now see the interior of the Hall. There are 3 double sockets along either side and a double at each end. Spacing between them varies from about 3m to 6m ish. To help spread the loading around the Hall we can work in groups of probably 4 to 6 with tables set in some form or another to allow socket supplies to be shared.
The tables are quite robust but we don't want to damage surfaces so please bare this in mind.
The hall has up to date electrical switchgear, and so I don't think you need worry too much about trip's, but if you have one and wish to bring it please do.

The piano and organ facilities are included in the hire and can be utilized in the event we are unable to fix any radios

I look forward to meeting you all and putting names to id's

I've spoken to Chris, it seems the sockets from which we will be taking our supplies are already RCD protected, making personal RCD protection no longer strictly necessary.
If you do have one you can bring it may help, but there's no need to buy one especially.
If you could still fit 3 or 5A fuses to your multiway extension, this will help.
Are people happy pooling their test equipment, as we can run a separate supply for this and any IT equipment.
Thanks, Rob.

I will also bring a laptop and printer to assist with any printing that might be necessary.

I have a variac/isolating transformer, a couple of scopes, an extension cable or two.

I may bring a Philips radio if I can repair the cabinet before hand.

I can get to cricklewood electronics and RS very easily, perhaps we should draw up a list of capacitors and resistors for stock.

Sean let me know if you want me to come early to help set up.

Hi Michael,

We cant get into the hall before 11am - there is another group in there. Setting up will not take long, assuming we are all there on time, we can grab a table each, and be set up within 20 mins.

I think we will be fine for Resistors, I am waiting on other attendees letting me know what they need us to supply - there are a few novices that have very little in the way of components, so we may well end up supplying the usual suspects - 0.1, .01, .001, .22, .047 - would be suprised if we needed much more than that - of course if we have poorly smoothers that will be a different story - 8, 16, 30 and 40 uf would probably be handy, but hold fire on those for a mo, as I am waiting to see if I can arrange something with Mike.

Cheers
Sean
