The Ekco A144 has a built in frame aerial and LW reception on this is much better than with a long wire.

This is interesting, I tried a Dac 90a (with a built in aerial) and this doesn't pick up the interference that I get so badly on my pre-war Murphys. I assumed it was because the Bush contains a X2 mains cap and this was protecting it from the interference.
So I ordered some X2 caps and wired one across the live/neutral terminals on the plug of one of my Murphy sets but it made absolutely no diference.
I've been recomended a Tacima Mains Conditioner, so I've ordered one and I'm really hoping this might sort out the problem.

As suggested in Post #20, the interference could be radiating from mains wiring nearby. Ferrite rod and loop/frame aerials are less susceptible to this type of interference.

There is so much hash around on AM, bad offenders are SMPS's, and my Plasma TV is the worst I've ever seen, it's not the PSU, I think it's the Y Sus. The horrible buzz is only present when the set has initialised. I can rarely use AM now.
