Lack of stations or metres on the dial suggests early '30s as latest date. Style isn't really '20s. Is it even British? There are a few similarities with French sets of the period.
Maybe a kit?

It looks to me to follow the style of “30”s shortwave converter. I have a couple of similar ones.

I think there was one of the Scott-Taggert sets that looked a bit like this, what valves are used?
